Top 3 Movies – Don Cheadle

Hello, there. I’m going to do something crazy. I’m taking a couple of my favorite things and I’m mashing it all together to provide you the best experience EVER. I’m taking Luke’s Movie News and our podcast favorite, Top 3, and putting them together on an actor level. So I’m going to give you the top 3 films (or maybe shows, you know my thoughts) on specific actors and the first version of this will be Don Cheadle.

If you don’t know who Don Cheadle is, well, he’s right here:

Now you’re like oh, that guys is in a lot, but he’s not great? Exactly! Lots of options and I can’t be faulted for my choices.

Let’s first take a look at what I’m not picking. Did you know, Don Cheadle is Lt. Col. James “Rhodey” Rhodes in Iron Man? Yup, not picking it. Avengers? Nope. He’s going to be in Space Jam 2…wait, what? Okay, Don Cheadle just about got disqualified from being picked…but I’ll let it slide. Here we go.

Honorable Mentions (for Andy, of course):

Reign Over Me. This is as honorable mention for one reason and one reason only. Reign Over Me isn’t a great movie. It may not even be a good movie, but THE TRAILER and holy shit do I mean the trailer is amazing. Take a peek:

That movie should kick ass but it didn’t deliver. However, bonus points for being a great trailer that I’ll always remember.

Last honorable mention and this was tough. I had a 3a and a 3b…I’m going to go with Swordfish. I know. A movie that has Halle Berry’s tits should ALWAYS make a Top 3, but it just misses it. Swordfish was the first movie of it’s kind with a hacker and heist type of feel and it’s good – just not good enough. Alright, here we go, the Top 3:

Number 3

The 3a from above is The Family Man. Don Cheadle stars along side Nic Cage as the guy who turns Cage’s world upside down. Cage is a guy who has it all. Money, sex, job, EVERYTHING. But he gave up the woman of his dreams many, many years ago to pursue wealth. Well, Cheadle changes everything when he puts a spell (?) on Cage and the next day he wakes up to realize he’s a family man married to the woman he left long, long ago. Cage is pretty freaked out by this, obviously, but what ensues really turns out to be a great film.

Number 2

Number 2 on my list Hotel Rwanda. Probably the first movie (maybe only) I loved with Cheadle as the lead. Don Cheadle plays Paul Rusesabagina in this true story of the hotel manager who housed over a thousand Tutsi refugees during their struggle against the Hutu militia in Rwanda. An incredibly powerful performance by Cheadle and I would encourage if you’ve never seen or heard of this to check it out.

Number 1

Finally, number 1 on my list of Don Cheadle movies is Flight. Flight is such a great freaking movie. It stars Denzel Washington as a pilot who saves his passengers on a malfunctioning airliner which crashes. However, turns out, he was drinking so it was a huge deal. Look, if my pilot saves my ass, I don’t care if there are lines of cocaine on his dash. The plane crashed and I’m alive! But that’s neither here nor there. Cheadle stars alongside Washington in this film and tries to help out, but I won’t spoil anything. If you have somehow been living under a rock and haven’t seen this, go do that now.

And that’s it! That’s why you were here! Stay tuned to check this in the future for some more actors and actresses and hey, buy some freaking merch! Oh, wait, that’s Andy, sorry. Hey, if you have any actors or actresses that you want me to give a top 3 on, drop right down below and mention it in the comments! I’m all for a challenge. Also, movie club is coming back, so stay tuned to social media and our podcast to hear what we are going to be watching.
