Kyle’s Money Shot – College Football Week 0

Hello Everyone!

Man, has it been a while or what? Hope everyone has had a great summer and y’all are ready for the best time of the year! Some people’s favorite season is summer, some people’s favorite season is fall, my favorite season is football. So let’s get after it shall we?

In what is being dubbed “Week 0” of the college football season we’ve got what, on the surface, looks like a real stinker of a week in terms of on-field talent. But if you look close enough, every game can look like the belle of the ball! Some folks can be hesitant to bet on the first games of the season because they want to get a look at the teams before they start throwing money around, but you know what they say, “Scared Money Don’t Make Money” so don’t be afraid to get in the game! Since it’s week 0 there’s only 5 FBS games on the schedule, so why not bet on all of them?

UCONN @ Fresno State (-27.5)

2020 Records: UCONN 0-0 Fresno State 3-3

2020 ATS Records: UCONN 0-0 Fresno State 3-3

UCONN opted out of the season last year due to COVID, and they probably should’ve opted out of previous seasons due to just being really bad at football. I want you to think about your life real quick, have you ever heard anyone say “I’m really excited for this UCONN football team” No? Didn’t think so. I know 27.5 is a lot of points to lay but sometimes you just need to not overthink things and bet against bad teams. And here at Opinions Anonymous not only do we not overthink things, we barely think at all! We’re going Fresno State -27.5.

Hawaii @ UCLA (-17.5)

2020 Records: Hawaii 5-4 UCLA 3-4

2020 ATS Records: Hawaii 4-5 UCLA 4-3

I know in today’s day and age people love to dive deep into the analytics of sports and try to find any gambling edge they can. And I respect and appreciate the work that folks do on that front, but sometimes you just have to throw all of that out the window and make a bet with your heart.

On May 11, 2021 former Hawaii QB Colt Brennan unfortunately passed away at the age of 37. For those of you who may be unfamiliar with Colt, he was putting up video game numbers for a not very well known Hawaii team back in the mid-2000’s. Due to the extreme time difference between Hawaii and my home here in Indiana, I have very fond memories of staying up until 2AM watching him throw for 500 yards and 5 TDs against the likes of Idaho and Louisiana Tech. He was just simply too much fun to be ignored. And while he may have contributed to a lot of sleepy Sunday mornings in the church pew (so did underaged drinking, but that’s a blog for another day) I couldn’t help but love the guy. I mean he had the Hawaiian Islands dyed into his hair

How do you not love this man? This bet is for you Colt. RIP. Hawaii +17.5

UTEP @ New Mexico State (+10)

2020 Records: UTEP 3-5 New Mexico State 0-0

2020 ATS Records: UTEP 5-3 New Mexico State 0-0

I’ll keep the write up for this one fairly simple. Both of these teams will not be very good this year, but  New Mexico State Played zero games in 2020, were you aware of that? No? Me too. New Mexico State played two games in the spring of 2021, were you aware of that? No? Me too. Let’s not get into a situation where we’re betting on a team that is an afterthought in college football. Also UTEP returns all 11 starters on offense and in a game like this, that might be all we need. UTEP -10

Southern Utah @ San Jose State (-23.5)

2020 Records: Southern Utah 1-5 San Jose State 7-1

2020 ATS Records: Southern Utah N/a San Jose State 6-1-1

The fact that I scoured the internet and could not find a website that had Southern Utah’s against the spread record last year should tell you everything you need to know.

San Jose State -23.5

And now, the moment you have all been waiting for, the triumphant return of Kyle’s Money Shot!

*Nebraska @ Illinois (+6.5)*

2020 Records: Nebraska 3-5 Illinois 2-6

2020 ATS Records: Nebraska 4-4 Illinois 3-5

Now look, I am a self-proclaimed Scott Frost hater. I have really enjoyed watching his Nebraska teams struggle. I can’t remember when my hatred of him started, oh wait, yes I can. It was during the 2018 season when he called their upcoming game against Purdue a “Winnable Game” and then proceeded to lose to the Boilermakers 42-28 at home. I’m not here to tell you that Purdue Football is good, in fact I pray for a 6-6 season every year. But do you really want to be the person betting on a guy that lost a “Winnable Game” 42-28 at home against Purdue? Take that and add in new Illinois coach Bret Bielema (You Big Ten fans may remember him from his Wisconsin coaching days) and I’m going to take Illinois. Hell, I’ll probably even sprinkle that Illinois moneyline. That’s the lock of the week, the Money Shot. Illinois +6.5

It felt good to get back into the blogging game everyone! It’ll be fun to see where this blog takes us this season. Since we did 5 games this week, I’ll try to keep that the standard for every week this year. Thanks for reading and please tweet at me or message me with any comments, criticisms, or locks you have!

Whether you are fading or following, Let’s Get Rich! Love you guys!
