Blockers – A Movie Review

Blockers (2018)

If you listened to our last episode, you know that we talked about the best and worst movies in 2018 – AND I promised a lot more movies in 2019. So here we are with both a movie from 2018 AND a movie in 2019. Also, Rotten Tomatoes emailed me back and basically said I wasn’t good enough and that I need to get more reviews that matter out there…so HELP ME MATTER!0 This edition is Blockers. I was skeptical about this movie and I had heard some bad things so I’m going to go ahead and say I’m sorry (especially to you, Alan) because this movie ROCKED!

The premise of Blockers is that three parents find out that their kids have made a sex pact to lose their virginity at prom, so they are going to try to cock block(ers) them. Could be great, could be awful – I thought it was great. Just watch this sequence and tell me you didn’t laugh. Plus, this movie has John freaking Cena (who actually acts very well)!

So Blockers was set up perfectly with the trio of John Cena, Leslie Mann, and Ike Barinholtz as they work so well together and compliment each other amazingly. At first, I thought Barinholtz was going to annoy me but damnit he was good. You know what’s crazy? This movie isn’t just all stupid remarks and sex, either. There’s actually a lot going on! Cena is macho (and oblivious) and his daughter has a strong, carefree personality. Barinholtz has screwed up so much that his daughter won’t even talk to him, and Mann is so overbearing and controlling that she doesn’t even know where her daughter secretly wants to go to school. All real life situations detailed in a fun manner.

I found myself laughing out loud several times through this movie and maybe even tearing up at one point (could have been the onion I was cutting for Cooking with Luke). But, all in all, this is a film that I WILL recommend! Check it out and let me know what you think in the comments.
